This is such a good piece, Jeff. It lays out so much of the historical arc of where we are now - this bizarre, sanitized vacuum of nothing. My day job is writing about the Oscars and honestly there seems to be nothing left that can be defined in any way as actual art. It isn't art - as you say - it has morphed into yet another lecture on how everyone should act and behave. Jon Stewart was the rare talk show host who would take pot shots at "both sides." Of course, he left because he and his show were accused of racism in their hiring practices. Losing him was too big of a loss. I didn't always agree but that was actual dissent.
