Jeff...at the start of the pandemic we had to mask up, many restaurants were closed and our clubhouse closed. Our saving grace was that we here in South Florida enjoy beautiful weather all year where we can congregate outside and go maskless. Governor DeSantis was instrumental in getting everyone vaccinated quickly. He made sure the most vulnerable (elderly and in nursing homes) got the vaccine first. Canadians and northerners flocked HERE to get free vaccines. And yes our schools remained open for the most part. But make no mistake: vaccines WORK! I agree with some but not all of your post and it's ok to disagree!

PS I'm neither a left wing liberal nor a right wing conservative.

Thanks, Amy, as always! True, Florida shut down like everywhere else for the first couple months of the pandemic, although the Floridian list of essential businesses included just about everything:) Palm Beach County and some other blue jurisdictions imposed mask mandates, and special provisions were indeed made to keep seniors (the most vulnerable) safe.

Vaccines apparently mitigate the severity of the disease once you get it, but failed at their primary mission: to stop the spread. Their failure in that regard was well known to scientists (and to politicians and media who actually followed the science) well before vaccine mandates were imposed.

Good to hear about your status as neither a left wing liberal nor a right wing conservative. Me too. It's easier to laugh this way...

All I can say is that in December 2020 (before the vaccine was even available) I traveled on a plane for 12 hours to Israel and visited my 5 grandchildren all of whom were in school. I did not contract Covid. It's hard to say who got it and why so many were hospitalized and died.

My Canadian friends proudly kept telling me of their strict rules that they had to follow. I kept asking "so was your Covid transmission and morbidity rate lower than in Florida? ". The answer is NO.
