About The Golem and the Messiah…

The Golem and the Messiah is a modern love story set in NYC, circa 2030. This passage from Chapter 3 sets the stage…

“The Great Culture War ended in the spring of 2030, when a coterie of commercial technomedia elite in New York City, Los Angeles, the Greater San Francisco Bay Area, the Silicon Valley and Washington DC purchased bloodless coups in their respective markets and declared their independence as vassal-state members of the new Utopian Federation. The handful of municipal leaders who couldn’t be bought outright or otherwise refused to cooperate were summarily destroyed in the media and forced to resign. Within a week, Diversity Councils were established in each new jurisdiction with the supreme power to author, impose and enforce uniform cultural narratives and lifestyle mandates through regional offices of what would soon become the most feared and efficient security apparatus of the new Federation: the Hate Crime Authority. By the next spring, more than twenty million citizens of the new federation had already fled their urban jurisdictions for greener, less oppressive pastures.”

The novel opens twenty years later with Federation founders and arche architects, Maria Perez and Jake Kassman, on the run from their own Frankenstein creation and soon to confront their destinies in the diminutive form of a young girl outlaw, a Brooklyn-born faith healer and heir apparent to a vast underground resistance.

About yours truly…

I’m a bona fide digital media pioneer with digital chops dating all the way back to 1984, when I authored Einstein’s Computer Guides, the first major how-to-book series on personal computers, and co-founded Einstein and Sandom Interactive (EASI), the nation’s first digital advertising agency — acquired by DMB&B in 1994.

I turned state’s witness in the early 21st century when I became the first media critic to write and speak out about what I described as an “…insidious and deliberate meta-addiction to all things media and all things digital.” What, I wondered, becomes of our time and money and freedom once addiction becomes the default social condition, the rule rather than the exception?

Aside from the above, I live in a Seinfeld central casting call for Del Boca Vista Phase III in sunny Delray Beach, Florida with my better 75% — to whom I apologize every morning in advance of every stupid and inane thing I will doubtless do or say that day. My proudest achievement, however, is the extent to which I still mortify my greatest achievement: my daughter, now a magnificent and strong young woman.
